The History Project Walk: The Notorious Goodwin Sands

Countdown to Bookings Start Date

Monday 5th July | 10.30am | Meet at Deal Pier Entrance

The Romans named it Lomea, Shakespeare referred to it as "The Great Ship Swallower". Call it what you will, there is no denying that the Goodwin Sands have been instrumental in shaping the history of this area of Kent.

Join ‘The History Project’ on a walk as we delve into this famous sandbank’s past, and uncover a diverse range of tales from lost treasure to sightings of ghost ships and even the Battle of Britain.  This walking tour has something to please all ages and interests.

The tour will last approximately an hour and a half and will include a stop along the way for refreshments.

Please note:

  • Some indoor venues are still to be confirmed as we do not have a clear enough idea of potential future Social Distancing measures.
  • Most times are currently given only as an indication.  Dependent on Government Guidelines some events may be scheduled as two shorter concerts or one longer concert split conventionally in two halves.
  • Prices will be announced once we have a clearer idea of logistics.
