Beethoven may have inherited the violin sonata from Mozart, but he made it his own, composing ten such works for violin and piano throughout his career. However, if the composer changed the way these instruments talked to each other, technology was also changing their voices with new kinds of piano and violin. This talk raises the curtain on our three concerts that feature Beethoven’s violin sonatas and explores how technology worked hand-in-glove with the composer’s creative ambitions.
