Countdown to Bookings Start Date
Saturday 7th November | Show Starts 8pm
Chris Difford is a Grammy nominated and double Ivor Novello Award winning lyricist who has brought us characters and sketches from everyday life, and has successfully turned the mundane into the beautiful, the urbane into the exquisite, for over 40 years. We are honoured and delighted that he has offered to perform one of a series of Zoom concerts from his Writers' Garden in support of The Astor.
With his collaborator, Squeeze co-founder Glenn Tilbrook, Chris has written some of the most enduring and best-loved songs of our time such as ‘Up The Junction’, ‘Cool For Cats’ and ‘Labelled With Love’, ‘Tempted’ and many others. In 2020 Squeeze are standing still while the global Pandemic takes centre stage, sadly their tour with Hall and Oates is on hold until 2021. Meanwhile Chris is finding ways of being at home and keeping creative and busy. Online workshops, Zoom concerts from home raising money for charity and Podcasts with his chums in the industry. Another book? Who knows? Some summer outdoor shows, yes.
In his Writers Garden Chris has already raised well over £20,000 for The Trussell Trust, Save Our Venues, Help Musicians, Nordoff Robbins, Turn up for Recovery, Music Support, Teenage Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Choose Love and the RCN Foundation Covid 19 Fund.
Previous special guests who joined Chris in his garden shed include; Shawn Colvin and Nile Rodgers, Don McClean, Yungblud and Julia Fordham, Stephen Fry, Midge Ure and Bob Harris, Beth Nielsen Chapman and Robert Vincent,
Chris Wood and Kathryn Williams, Elvis Costello and Kimmie Rhodes, John Lloyd Judith Owen and Julia Fordham, Mark Nevin and Zak Hobbs, Komal Boo Hewerdine and John Bentley.
We look forward to seeing you.
