The impact of COVID-19 upon the Astor Theatre and the livelihoods of all those who work at the theatre has been profound. All our operating income comes from people like you coming to see our performances and spending money in our bar. Without these performances the vast majority of our income disappears.

However, for many, many months it was not practical or responsible to stage shows or hold classes when people’s lives were at risk. Even once we were able to reopen safely we have been at the mercy of new variants and government regulations restricting public gatherings. Many of you will be aware that we have often been forced to cancel or postpone shows and events due to a variety of challenges.

The slow return of public confidence in attending shows in confined spaces has meant that we continue to come under extreme financial pressure and, whilst survival is still our goal, it is far from guaranteed. Arts venues up and down the country are being forced to close their doors permanantly in the face of ongoing hardship: we do not want to join them.

The Astor Community Theatre is a Community Interest Company and any donation – large or small – will ensure that your theatre stays thriving long after this crisis is past.
